Nobody applies to renaissance.network cold. Every member was sponsored by someone already inside and accepted by a host who read them, and new requests are vetted every Friday. Members meet in the rooms of the.salon; the network is what persists between evenings.

Every circle
holds more than
one view.

A question looks different from a lab, a studio, a council chamber and a fund. The network brings together people who rarely share a table: those who think about a field, those who build in it, and those who fund, govern or steward it. Each circle is composed for heterogeneity of role: five roles and one practitioner from another domain. The network is where those roles come from.

N°02 · The vetting

Nobody

The quality of the network is the quality of its admissions. Every new member costs two people something: a member who puts their own name next to the candidate's, and a host who decides the candidate belongs in a circle.

    One sponsoring member is required. If you know nobody yet, request an introduction and say so: a host may still read the position you would defend.

Admission is the beginning, not the credential. A member's standing accrues from return invitations and from being named in an audio summary as the argument that changed someone's mind. Hosts keep private notes. None of it is shown as a number: the salon's own mechanism was reputation by being invited back, and the network keeps it there.

A note on people

Humans are messy
and imperfect.
We embrace it.

The vetting does not look for polished people. It looks for people worth disagreeing with. Members arrive with unfinished thoughts, change their minds halfway through an evening, and sometimes get it wrong in front of the circle. That is what a room is for.

Changed minds

Changing your mind is not losing.

The audio summary records who changed their mind, and what convinced them. Being persuaded is part of the work.

Getting it wrong

First names only, the recording stays with the circle, and nothing is scored. You can be wrong out loud.

Members meet

A room never exceeds twelve. A series never runs past five evenings.

the.salon is where the network sits down: a host, an invited circle, one question, a whole series of evenings, by voice, and sometimes around a real table. Membership is in the network, not in a room: a technologist can sit in the Art room.

From member to host

Guests of one salon became the hosts of the next.

A member who has sat in three or more series may open a room on their own day, with their own question and their own circle, and becomes one of the hosts who vet the next members. The patron who pays for a room buys the room and nothing about its content: the question, the circle and the audio summary stay the host's.

N°06 · The audio summary

What each room concluded, to every member who was not there.

One audio summary per series, edited and signed by the host. It reaches every member within 48 hours of the final evening, by email and on the member home: the question, where the circle landed, what changed minds, where the real disagreement lies, and who still disagrees, by name. The public edition follows after 30 days, names removed. The recording of the evenings stays with the circle.
